Now I feel better about continuing my discussion about some of the claims made about lemon juice as regards health and well-being.
I know that I drink a lot of it and it seems to be doing me some good but I can’t really say if what it is doing for me is the same as what it might be doing for other people … but suffice it to say that I am pleased with it and my doctor doesn’t seem to have any objection so I go my rather eccentric way and do whatever I want. (With my doctor’s knowledge and approval of course. There is no fool greater than the fool who has himself or herself as their own physician.)
There are said to be some minor side effects connected to drinking lemon juice but as far as I can tell I haven’t run into any of these. According to my best understanding, if there are side effects to consuming lemon juice then they are normally reported to be connected to the impact of acid liquids on the digestive system.
I like to mix my lemon juice with some pure spring water and add a little honey (Raw and unfiltered) to sweeten it — but I can do this because I have no issues with blood sugar levels and again my doctor has approved me doing it.
My limit is usually one lemon juice drink per day that I make by combining two tablespoons (sometimes three) of the juice to an 8-ounce glass of water and the little dash of honey as I have already mentioned.
While I am not certain what the concoction actually does for me, I do think and believe that it helps me to keep my bodily water levels balances and it certainly does seem to act as a mild diuretic — especially first thing each morning just after I get out of bed.
Sometimes I also mix up some raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (with the “Mother” in it with water and honey in the same manner as I do the lemon juice because I have read a lot of stuff claiming that apple cider vinegar does some pretty good things to the body and my overall well-being too.
I am 79-years-old now and I still go walking, power-walking, take regular trips to the gym where I work out on elliptical machines, treadmills, and stair climbers and so far (Cross fingers) I have maintained a decent level of fitness …. even though I am constantly battling extra weight — especially when the seasons change.
My doc is always after me to lose weight and I do lose some … and gain it back again … and lose it again … in a yo-yo pattern that I know isn’t good for me but which, so far, hasn’t seemed to kill me. (Crossing fingers again.).
So yes, I like the sour things that I have been talking about and so far I don’t think they have turned me into too nasty of an old bear and I do feel good about what I am doing and so — well, I guess it is good for me. I cannot say or claim that it might be good for everybody else but I do believe it is good for me.
