I go onto some websites where I am promptly informed —– after a few visits —– that I am nearing the end of my “Allowance” of “Free” articles and that I should get ready to open my wallet and spend some money to “Subscribe.”
I hate to repeat myself —– and I have discussed this on another blog post somewhere —– but I am not going to spend money on online publications because there are enough free ones out there to give me what I need for me to stay up to date on what is going on in the world.
But wait! There’s more:
Not only am I not “Subscribing” at a monetary cost, but I am also going to refuse to use these kinds of publications as reference sources for my own blog posts, I am never going to give them the free advertising of a link from my blog to theirs, and I am, in fact, going to refrain from ever clicking onto their websites ever again —– until such time as they come to their senses and start acting more like they care about us than they do about making a few lousy bucks from selling online subscriptions.
There is no online publication that I consider so important that I cannot easily do without it and I certainly as Hell am not going to spend my hard-earned money on any of those who apparently have an inflated view of their own worth.
My attitude is, “If they need to make money, then let them sell some advertising and leave people alone about the “Subscription” bullshit!
